The countdown to the 40th Independence Anniversary has begun and the Ministry of Internal Affairs is indeed looking busy and in a serious mood to lead a very resilient people into celebrations of 40 years of freedom.
The Independence Anniversary this year 2020 is being coordinated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs Minister, under its Minister and current DPM, MP Ishmael Kalsakau and the Vanuatu Government.
🇻🇺🇻🇺 ORGANISERS 🇻🇺🇻🇺
This year’s 40th Independence Anniversary is funded by the Vanuatu Government and there is a budget allocated for the event. The main organiser is the Vanuatu Government.
Every Province has an allocated budget to support them during the celebrations and all Provincial Governments are expected to lead their people in celebrating the 40th Anniversary.
🇻🇺🇻🇺 COORDINATIONS 🇻🇺🇻🇺
The Vanuatu Government has hired Fred Samuel as the National Coordinator for the 40th Independence Anniversary.
Fred Samuel has his own team that looks to coordinate and manage the overall event for the Vanuatu Government however every province has its own coordination team.
I got up with Fred Samuel and he told me “throughout the country, the Independence Anniversary programs are being prepared and about to be launched with Malampa Province leading the way as their programs are indeed fully drafted and have been submitted to the National Coordinating team.”
🇻🇺🇻🇺 COMMUNICATIONS 🇻🇺🇻🇺
The National Coordinator for this year’s celebrations says “we have a website that everyone can access information on about any celebrations on any Provinces in the country and I ask that you all do visit the site”
Fred’s team have already engaged the Media Industry to properly coordinate and disseminate the media coverage and promotions throughout the whole month of July.
YTS News also has a dedicated page called Yumi 40 on its website www.yts.vu which will also update everyone on events happening around the country.
Please do visit www.independence.gov.vu for more information direct from the National Coordinator Fred Samuel and his team on what is happening around the country as we prepare and look forward and countdown the days to reach the big 40.
🇻🇺🇻🇺 COVID-19 🇻🇺🇻🇺
Social Media is alive as people worry and yet anticipate a festival looming and despite the CIVID-19 pandemic are beginning to expect something different from all the gloom and doom but as expected safety is the priority and I will update you all if the Government does release instructions on hygiene and safety.
🇻🇺🇻🇺 VENUES 🇻🇺🇻🇺
All Provinces are expected to raise the national flag on a chosen venue on the 30th of July 2020 and depending on what communities around the country say but as always every home is a venue to enjoy this day.
🇻🇺🇻🇺 EXPECTATION 🇻🇺🇻🇺
Coming into the 40th celebrations with COVID-19 requirements and conditions still applying, it will be interesting to see what the Vanuatu Government will rollout for safety measures.
Overall it is expected that a celebration will provide our people another perspective that we might be losing our incomes, we might have lost our homes to TC Harold, we might be about to loose our businesses however, we do have our freedom and that is always an expectation worth waking up to.
🇻🇺🇻🇺 PROBLEMS 🇻🇺🇻🇺
We will face the drunks more than ever. Underage drinking will go worse and the clubs will allow this in the interest of a profit. Noise Pollution is expected. Accidents are expected. For homeowners, this period will see break-ins increase so be aware. For Law Enforcement, this 40th Anniversary will be a challenge.
🇻🇺🇻🇺 SPENDING POWER 🇻🇺🇻🇺
It will be interesting to see how people spend money during the celebrations. Paydays in Port Vila have dramatically changed the town looks a little bit like a ghost town on poaydays.
The will to spend money is there but the power has diminished and maybe next to zero as incomes have been greatly affected.
