The Supreme Court of Vanuatu has for the first time in its judicial history handed down a life sentence to a Ni Vanuatu.
The decision was handed down to Bob Robert, who was charged with the murder and abduction of a six-year-old girl at Etas.
The girl was found dead some distance away from her home at Etas in the morning of April 18, 2018.
Robert was convicted with one count of unlawfully entering a dwelling house, one count of attempted entry of a dwelling house, one count of abduction and two counts of aggravated unlawful sexual intercourse with a person under 15 years and an additional charge of intentional homicide.
The judgment handed down by the Supreme Court also makes Mr. Robert the first prisoner to serve a life sentence in the Republic of Vanuatu.
