The monitoring and evaluation team of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP), Mugiyanto said that the Indonesian government is currently increasing the provision of vaccinations for the Papuan people. One of them is by involving students aged 12-17 years as Vaccine Ambassadors in a communication strategy that aims to increase awareness of the Papuan people about the importance of the Covid-19 vaccine.
During this vaccine rollout, it was discovered that the Papuan Police in collaboration with the Jayapura City Education Office and school principals initiated the Child Vaccine Ambassador program involving high school students in Jayapura. This program has also been held since August 1 and will last until August 17, 2021.
“KSP appreciates this effort as a way for the Papuan Regional Government to improve the vaccination program through a door-to-door mechanism to schools and housing,” said Mugiyanto in a press statement.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Health of Indonesia, Budi Gunadi Sadikin explained that for August-September 2021 the Indonesian government will pay special attention to five regions in Papua to complete vaccination. The five areas are Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Keerom Regency, Merauke Regency and Mimika Regency.
“The president asked the five regions to immediately carry out a complete vaccine before the end of September 2021 because it is for the preparation of the Papua PON,” Budi said at a press conference.
The hope is that with the completion of the vaccine for the priority areas of PON, the implementation of PON can be successful and not become a new cluster.
