Another suspect on Parole arrested over infant death

A man from South Pentecost has been arrested as a suspect on the 17th of October 2017, by the Vanuatu Police over the death of an eight-month-old baby.

The suspect is charged with domestic violence and threat after Police ran an operation starting from the Waterfall area to the Sanmara Village.

The suspect was arrested and escorted by the Police to Port Vila for questioning.

The Vanuatu Police Media has stated that the Vanuatu Police Force team consisted of the Professional Standard Unit, the CID, The Police Southern Command, and a pathologist from Australia.

The pathologist, Calle Winskog, has yet to release the autopsy report determining the cause of death on the infant.

The Commanding Officer for the operation, Acting Superintendent, Glen Nicholson Mahina has through Gabrial Vusi Lae confirmed that the suspect is a former inmate.

The suspect has spent jail time for Sexual Intercourse without Consent and was released on parole on the 20th of December, 2016. The suspect’s parole period ended on the 20th of December 2017.

The Australia Policing Justice Program funded the logistics cost for the operation.
