An incident in Merauke this week (27/8) in Papua involving two POM AU members on Tuesday (27/8), have been in detention for investigation. Furthermore, on Wednesday (28/7), the TNI Commander also dismissed the Commander of the JA Dimara Air Base, as well as the POM Air Force Unit Commander JA Dimara Air Base.

Foundation for Papuan Human Integrity and Justice (YKK-MP) in Indonesia appreciates the quick response and decision from the Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, regarding the incident in Merauke. The Executive Director of YKKMP, Theo Hesegem, said that currently the people of Bumi Cenderawasih are just waiting for the realization of law enforcement against the two members of the Air Force Military Police (POM AU) who were involved in an incident with a civilian in Merauke.

YKK-MP invites all Papuan people to respond positively to law enforcement measures against the two members of the military. “It is extraordinary the swift action taken by the TNI Commander. So we still have to wait and be patient with legal certainty in the military court in Papua, and follow further developments,” said Theo in an official statement.
