Fact finding team intercepted and shot by rebels in Papua, 2 People Wounded

Jakarta – The Joint Fact Finding Team ( TGPF ) who were on a mission to investigate the shootings in Intan Jaya, Papua, were shot down by an armed criminal group ( KKB ). Two people were reportedly injured by KKB shots.

Kapen Kogabwilhan III Colonel Czi IGN Suriastawa said that the TGPF along with the officers carrying out the escort were shot by the KKB rebels after carrying out investigation at the crime scene (TKP) in Hitadipa, Papua.

“For now, it is true that there was an obstruction by the KKB after carrying out the TKP exercise at Hitadipa towards Sugapa. 1 military victim and 1 investigation team are injured” Colonel Suriastawa told reporters, Friday (9/10/2020).

He said the events happened earlier today. Currently the two victims have been evacuated and treated for gunshot wounds.

The identities of the two victims who were shot are not yet known. The team is now in a safe location.

“The victims suffered gunshot wounds. They are in a safe place now and are being treated. It was an obstruction by the KKB rebels to interrupt the investigations to hide the truth from the public” said Suriastawa.

TGPF was formed by the government to investigate the shooting that occurred in Intan Jaya, Papua last week. Today, TGPF there were moving towards Sugapa, Intan Jaya to carry out their duties.

TGPF chairman Benny Mamoto said the team had been in Timika since Wednesday due to transit and today they moved to Sugapa to find facts about the shooting that killed 2 TNI members, 1 civilian and 1 priest.

“Today we are moving towards Sugapa to start taking information about the shooting case at Intan Jaya,” said TGPF Chairman Benny Mamoto when they met the media at the Horison Hotel, Timika, Papua, Thursday (8/10).
