FIJI athletes are building up towards the 2017 Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu later this year.
Fiji team manager Maurice Erasito said they would give their best for the 2017 Oceania Athletics Championship which starts on Thursday at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.
“We will be having friendly competitions for the athletes at Churchill Park before the competition begins next week,” he said.
“We want to see where the athletes stand.
“It is more of a development squad and our focus is towards the Pacific Mini Games where we are looking forward to, but we will still give our best in the Oceania Athletics Championship and trying to develop our team.”
Erasito said they were hoping to get lot of support from the home fans.
“Oceania is a good build up for the athletes. We have initially put up the list of athletes based on the number of competitions which we had and over the last nine weeks we had been having competitions to monitor their progress,” he added.
“Some of the athletes were not able to come to the competition and we had to drop them from the squad.
“The whole squad is of 150 members including the coaches and the officials.”
The competition will be held from June 28-July 1 at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.
