Mayor Sumptho visits Honiara

The Mayor of Port Vila City in Vanuatu Hon. Sumptoh Ulrich has led a delegation on a courtesy visit trip to Honiara City Council

The trip is part of a sister City agreement which has been signed by both City Councils

Mayor Sumptho said the main objective of the agreement is to share development ideas and plans between the two Cities

“The visit is part of the sister City agreement which have been established between our two Cities and at the same time to congratulate the new Mayor of HCC for taking up his new post with his Councillors

“Also as part of the agreement we are here to learn and exchange ideas and plans to help improve our Cities to have better service deliveries,” Sumptho said

Mayor Sumptho further states another main objective is to build and develop both Cities within the context of our Melanesian cultures

He also said further plans is to include other Cities in the Melanesia countries to be part of the local authority’s sister City relationship to have more exchange at the grassroots level

Since the establishment of the agreement there has seen benefits in the form of assistance during disasters from both Countries

The Port Vila Mayor and his delegation will be in the Capitol for a week

Meanwhile Sumptho said they will also have the opportunity to be part of the Country’s 37th Independence celebrations

“As Mayor of Port Vila I would like to wish the good people of Honiara and the Solomon Island as a whole a happy celebration on your 37th Independence,” he added
