Papua Sports Week (PON XX) will be held from October 2 to 15, 2021.
All preparations are underway, but still, the organisers are focusing on other important components such as health facilities and venue readiness to be used in each sport.
The chairman of PB PON, Lukas Enembe said, “all PON Papua sports venues are ready to be used, including rugby which is targeted to be completed by the end of September” on Wednesday (22/9/2021).
Lukas said the handing over of the venue has also been signed and the completion of all venue construction work, which was built using the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget.
Besides rugby, the venues that have also been completed includes an aquatic arena, cricket field and facilities, indoor and outdoor hockey, roller skates, archery, and other supporting infrastructure such as roads, drainage, sanitation to athletes’ homes in all clusters of PON Papua XX.
PON Papua XX will implement health protocols as a step against the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
The government through the National Disaster Management Agency has already sent three million masks to Papua.
The head of the National Disaster Management Agency, Ganip Warsito, emphasized that the purpose of the aid delivery is to support the smooth implementation of the PON XX in Papua.
The aid was transported by TNI Hercules aircraft and will be distributed in a number of venues for the PON XX, which is intended for the public and those who will watch the live match in various locations.
Besides the masks, the National Disaster Management Agency also sent 3,000 boxes of antigen test kits and 500,000 bottles of hand sanitisers as well as family tents, velbeds, booth tents, and several other supporting logistical assistance.
PON Papua XX will hold the competitions involving 37 sports and more than 6,000 athletes and 3,000 people from the coaching team.
The main venue for the event will take place at the Lukas Enembe Stadium in East Sentani in Jayapura.
