PNG burn fake bilums

Papua New Guinea took a stand for the good of their culture and their indigenous artifacts.

The creative art of weaving a ‘bilum’ is sacred to PNG women who spend days and weeks to perfect them and has been passed on for generations.

Authorities in PNG say they “will not allow cheap counterfeits made and imported anymore.”

PNG Customs Services is taking the lead with fellow stakeholders and local reps to burn all fake bilums not made in PNG.
