A month ago concerns were raised when the Port Vila Municipality Council issued permits to a private business to use the sea-front as a landing for its business.
Another case has risen after PVMC issued Coco Beach Resort a permit to float a pontoon at the Seafront wall as a landing for its tourism business.
The new pontoon by Coco beach has also seen them cut a gate through the new Sea Front railings.
It is understood Coco Beach Resort was allocated a gate further down the Seafront wall which also has a gate however now that they have erected a new pontoon closer further up the Seafront wall, they have also cut the railings for a new gate.
Coco Beach has also been accused by Tourism operators in Town of not contributing to the Tourism Marketing Development Fund (TMDF) which is a monthly donation by Tourism operators inside Port Vila to support the Vanuatu Government in its marketing efforts for Vanuatu Tourism.
The Ministry of Tourism has responded to the strong public criticism saying “they are aware of the issue raised and have personally visited the recent developments and will be deliberating on measures to address the increasing ignorance by both PVMC and some operators who seem to be able to get fast permits for activities inside the Seafront.”
The Ministry of Tourism also confirms they are taking this matter seriously as it is clear “some people have no consideration for the Seafront beautification”
