Today is the International Day of the Girl Child celebrated on 11 October each year, this year’s theme is “My voice, our equal future” aiming to amplify girls’ voices for a better future.

Regina Andrew, an Australia Awards alumni, completed her studies in engineering at Aviation Australia.

She is now one of the very few female aircraft engineers in Vanuatu.

Since she was a girl, Regina had always been passionate about planes and about using tools to repair things.

By pursuing her passion for aircraft engineering, Regina challenged gender norms and broke down stereotypes about what young women can do.

Her message for girls in Vanuatu is that education is an important pathway for girls to break down barriers and pursue their dreams.
