Ricky Cawor Breaks the Record for the Most Productive Top Scorer Throughout PON

JAYAPURA – The Papuan football team successfully defeated Aceh in the final match of the PON XX Papua National Sports Week (PON), last Thursday. The clash which took place at the Mandala Jayapura Stadium ended with a score of 2-0.

It was the captain, Ricky Ricardo Cawor, who crushed the ambitions of Fakhri Husaini’s team to bring the gold medal back to Tanah Rencong in Aceh.

In this match, the former Mimika pounder scored two goals. One through the white dot in the 4th minute and another through a hard trick from outside the penalty box in the 22nd minute.

The official website of Papua PON recorded the two goals in this final and made Ricky record his name as the top scorer of PON XX Papua men’s football with 11 goals.

He also carved his name with another record as the most productive striker throughout the PON GAMES held since 1948 in Indonesia.

Ricky’s achievements surpassed his senior wantok Boaz Salossa in 2004 PON XVI Palembang with 10 goals, and David Saidui in 1993 PON XII Jakarta with 9 goals.

According to¬†Antara News, Papua was leading 2-0 from Ricky’s goal when Aceh had to continue the match with ten men due to the second yellow card of midfielder Muharrir.

The 11 vs 10 situation made it easier for the Papua team to maintain the 2-0 lead until the final whistle.

With this victory, the hosts succeeded in securing the gold medal for the men’s soccer in the 2021 PON XX Papua, while Aceh had to settle for silver.

While the bronze medal was won by East Java, which in the early match defeated East Kalimantan by 3-2 in extra time.
