ATHLETICS Fiji president Joseph Rodan Sr has sent a stern warning to athletes to compete in their weekly competition today at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.
Most of the athletes to compete have been selected for the 2017 Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu in December.
“We have already selected our team to the Pacific Mini Games and most of the athletes will be competing tomorrow (today),” he said.
“The competition is compulsory for them to compete in as we prepare them for the Pacific Mini Games.
“I think the team to the Pacific Mini Games will be pretty strong and I am confident of the team. If the athletes do not show up to compete, then they should be having a good reason.”
Rodan Sr said the coaches had been working hard with their athletes.
“Finance is not a problem for Athletics Fiji as we have paid most of our levies for the Pacific Mini Games,” he said.
“It is all about the athletes to train hard for the competition and do their job.
“Athletics Fiji has done its job and now it is for the athletes to go and make the nation proud. Most of the coaches have been working with the athletes and they have gone through the strength and conditioning with speed and getting them ready for the competition.”
