Vanuatu Rugby League fans are deeply saddened to hear that star player Jason Kalfau Pakoasongi died after a long battle with cancer.
Late Pakoasongi, was a lawyer with the State Law Office and was the elder statesman of the VRL who has played his first ever Vanuatu Rugby League team, competing at the International 9’s in Sydney in 2012.
He went on to make his Test debut in Vanuatu’s first ever Test match vs Greece in 2012, scoring a try in front of his home crowd in Port Vila and has a record of being the only Vanuatu player to play in all 5 of Vanuatu’s Test Matches.
Jason also holds the record of scoring 3 Test tries and also captaining the South-Sea Islander Vanuatu Invitational tour throughout Queensland in 2013.
There is not much to reveal about the cancer treatment and details of where he is being treated but Jason went for treatment 6 months ago in India.
The 37 year old star player left behind his wife star player from Samoa with 3 strong boys and a daughter.
There is no immediate word of a memorial as we were told by his relatives that his body is still in India.
