Volcano evacuees returning to their homes on Ambae Island

The Vanuatu government through its National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) has started repatriating thousands of Manaro Voui volcano evacuees back to the island of Ambae where they have been moved out earlier this month.

The first ship, LC Urata left Samansen Wharf on Saturday 21st Oct 2017 with essential service team to Ambae and will set-up on ground in preparation to receive all the returning evacuees.

The team is now stationed in North, South, East and West of the island consisting of groups from Food Cluster, Shelter Cluster, Gender & Protection, Logistics, Infrastructure, the government’s NDMO and Penama Provincial Office, Air Vanuatu, National Bank of Vanuatu and some business operators on the island.

The National Disaster Management Office of Sanma PEOC is also assisting in the efforts and contributions of clusters and individuals to make the operations run smooth.
