YTS bans members in its forum for inciting violence

After receiving threats from political groupings, the Yumi Toktok Stret management has decided to ban members of the forum who have incited violence against the YTS management and administrators.

Yumi Toktok Stret director Julian Tove Ligo was informed this morning of the decision by the admins to ban members for inciting violence against the social media forum Yumi Toktok Stret.

Mr. Ligo told YTS news that “we have received threats, and have also had groups of supporters from the current government who wanted to come look for us at our homes”

Mr. Ligo continues “the government, past and present have never asked to meet Yumi Toktok Stret. How can any government understand the sentiments of the people, let alone a social media forum which is the biggest in the country, when they do not give time to talk to us?”

“The idea of going to talk to the regulator is ill-founded as the regulator, here being VBTC does not have powers over social media. If the use of social media in Vanuatu is illegal then the government should make its stand clear.” Continued Ligo.

Mr Ligo added “Change is inevitable and we cannot by-pass change. We either embrace change or we will be a dying breed”

The Yumi Toktok Stret management will be meeting this week. “I have asked all founders and senior members who have helped built this forum to attend” says Ligo. “A lot of people do not know, that YTS is run by members of the public, and for political groups who have issues with YTS, need to know their people as most of the youths involved in running YTS are affiliated to both the parties in the government side and the opposition side.”

Amidst all the threats Yumi Toktok Stret will be removing members affiliated to political groupings who incite violence. Political staff inside the Prime Minister’s Office will also be removed until the Vanuatu Government clears its position as to why its supporters are threatening Yumi Toktok Stret.

“It seems putting a band aid on people’s lips seems to be the practical solution to transparency and accountability and above all maintaining power”

Yumi Toktok Stret has gone global and everything on YTS is seen by people around the world.
